A few years ago, I was sitting on the front porch waiting for a friend to stop by when I heard something begin to fall from the top of the tall tree in front of me. As I listened to small twigs breaking and leaves rustling as this "thing" descended through the branches, I figured it was just a very large acorn. And then, a squirrel landed on the ground with a little thud - he jumped up in frantic surprise and quickly scurried back up the tree. As random as this may seem, I had never thought about the community of squirrels living in the tree tops nor had I ever witnessed a squirrel fall out of tree and it was a great reminder to me of how much is going on in the world around me that I often do not notice. I had been sitting there caught up in my thoughts with no conscious awareness of the reality that I was not the only living creature enjoying that space. I decided then to work on being more aware of the life around me - be it the amazing detail of the tiniest flower, the subtle yet dramatic changes in lighting, or the often hidden dreams & struggles of the people I encounter each day, there is always so much more to see when I stop long enough to take a closer look. This site is meant to provide a small glimpse into some of the things I see as I go through my days striving to notice more of the world around me.
